Product and utility independence
Midwest Energy Group is product-independent and utility neutral. We do not represent any single brand of energy efficient technology to our customers. We actively pursue savings from both electricity and gas or fossil fuel energy. We look into and recommend opportunities such as on-site generation and the latest state- of-the-art technologies that utilities and product specific vendors will not and cannot provide given the inherent conflicts of the business they represent. |

| Energy efficiency expertise
Midwest Energy Group brings proactive, forward-thinking, cutting edge energy efficiency services to public and private sector entities. Our experienced energy managers evaluate facilities and recommend solutions that create positive cash flows by optimizing energy consumption and lowering costs. Identifying opportunities and retrofitting existing buildings for energy conservation is an integral portion of the process. Our areas of expertise include:
|
| |
Energy peformance contract or guaranteed savings agreement
The GSA is the legal agreement used for implementing and tracking the project over the term of the agreement. The GSA clearly defines roles and responsibilities and states how savings are determined and how the guarantee will function. The GSA will also address baseline energy uses and conditions and changes in facilities affecting savings. The GSA should be reviewed by the customers engineering, facility management, financial and legal staff. The GSA will include the project cost, financial arrangements, scope of work, specifications, responsibility of parties, maintenance, monitoring and guarantee. |

Government assistance programs
The federal government, many states and local utility companies offer energy conservation programs and incentives for private and public entities. We have worked with federal and state agencies to obtain:
- Energy Audit Grants / Funding for customers
- Grants / Funding for Internet Based Monitoring Systems
- Energy Performance Project Grants / Funding for customers
- Low Interest Buy-Down Grants for customers
Midwest Energy Group engineers have helped customers obtains hundreds of thousands of dollars in assistance for the implementation of energy audits, energy performance projects and monitoring systems. |

Construction and management
We offer a complete portfolio of expert mechanical, electrical, and plumbing services, providing heating and air conditioning, ventilation and building automation solutions for your facility. All energy conservation measures will be installed, upgraded, and/or replaced per contract terms and schedule. We will work with our contractors or faculty preferred contractors to insure a top quality project. All of our contracting services are available through contract negotiations that fit your needs including: scope, warranties, exclusions, specific vendors or equipment, response times and maintenance issues. Upon satisfactory completion of the project, inclusive of any punch list items, the project will then be substantially completed. |
| |
| Commissioning and performance monitoring |
| |
Upon completion of the physical installation of work, the equipment installed will undergo commissioning and performance monitoring. This phase reviews the work for actual performance of the individual systems and the systems as a whole. The building automation system will be subjected to a variety of tests to insure that all designed or retrofitted HVAC, lighting, electrical and mechanical systems are controlled and operating as designed. Calibrations, adjustments and checks will be performed, completed and demonstrated to a designated representative. Commissioning and performance monitoring is an important phase necessary to fine-tune the building systems control process and ensure maximum energy savings. |

Employee training
Training is essential when new equipment or controls are installed in a faculty. We need to make certain that the faculty personnel responsible for maintaining the equipment on a daily basis are fully trained on equipment operation to optimize savings and equipment life cycle. We will dedicate a predetermined amount of time to employee instruction and training. This will insure smooth transitions with the new equipment and improvements. |
| |
Monitoring and verification
The monitoring and verification (M&V) process is employed to track and prove the implementation results for the guaranteed portion of the energy services contract. We will need to collect monthly utility information for all aspects of the energy project. A monthly projection is derived from the information gathered and an annual report is generated. This report is presented to the customer approximately one month after the anniversary date of project's completion and annually for the duration of the guarantee period. Customized to meet project specific guarantees, our M&V process may include:
- Data collection during the guarantee period
- Equipment efficiency tests to assess conditions after use and cleaning
- Fuel delivery quantity and costs
- Instrumentation and metering
- Determination of annual savings due to the installation of specific equipment
- Baseline adjustments

Maintenance and service
As an optional package, we can include maintenance and service as part of the agreement. We will need to determine the amount of maintenance and service necessary as well as the length of the service contract. The contract term can be for as many years as you desire, not to exceed the GSA contract term. This agreement can cover all installed equipment or any individual energy conservation measures that were installed per the performance contract. This is an optional service and is usually determined by the customer's need or sometimes their ability to maintain equipment in-house. |
| |
Utility rate analysis and report generation
As an optional package, we can include an Internet based bill analysis, metering and reporting software and hardware package. We utilize metering technology and software systems to record data from your facility for electricity, natural gas and other metered services as appropriate. Data can be collected by individual meters or it can be collected from a bill analysis and completely recalculated to monitor for billing errors and reported through a web browser. Reports can be generated conforming to your specific departmental or time specific requirements. You may also elect to have us receive, monitor for mistakes and pay directly your ongoing monthly bills. We provide you with detailed back up documentation for auditing purposes. |
